Team Fortress 2 Console Commands: A Guide to Practice and Training

Enable the TF2 developer console and use sv_cheats, bot commands, and training workflows on local servers—without confusing them with third-party tools.

Team Fortress 2 supports a developer console for cfg scripts, training, and (on local servers) cheat-protected commands. These are Valve-approved tools—not the same as external third-party software sold on tf2cheats.com.

Enable the console

In Steam: Properties → Team Fortress 2 → Launch Options, add `-console`. In-game: Options → Advanced → **Enable developer console**. Bind a key under Keyboard → Advanced if tilde is awkward on your keyboard layout.

Local server cheats (sv_cheats 1)

On a listen server you control, run `sv_cheats 1` then commands such as `impulse 101` (refill ammo), `toggle tf_use_fixed_weapon_switches`, or `bot`-series commands to populate bots. Cheats do **not** work on official Valve matchmaking servers.

Training maps and offline practice

Use offline/local servers to test jumps as Scout, sticky jumps as Demoman, or airshot timing as Soldier. Pair console tweaks with class configuration guides stored in your cfg folder.
